WhatWeDrive is a free vehicle safety research tool. We pull real-time data from NHTSA — the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — and present it clearly so anyone can check a vehicle before they buy it, or find out if their current car has open safety issues.

What we show

Driver complaints filed with NHTSA, active recalls, NHTSA 5-Star crash test ratings, and crash/fire/injury flags — for any make, model, and year going back to 1980.

What we don't do

  • We don't require accounts or registration.
  • We don't store your searches.
  • We don't run ads or sell data.

All data comes directly from NHTSA's public APIs and is refreshed daily. Always verify current recall status at nhtsa.gov.
